Intense Pulsed Light
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an innovative treatment used by optometrists to address a variety of eye-related conditions, particularly those associated with DES (dry eye syndrome). IPL offers a non-invasive and painless solution that uses high-intensity pulses of light to target inflammation and improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oily layer of the tear film. It also reduces the levels of proinflammatory mediators, destroys abnormal blood vessels(rosecea) which prepetuate inflammation, and decrease the demodex mite population along the lid margins.
By stimulating these glands and reducing inflammation around the eyelids, IPL can help restore normal tear layer function, providing relief from the discomfort and irritation caused by dry eyes. This therapy is particularly beneficial for patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a leading cause of dry eye.
If you’re suffering from symptoms of dry eyes, such as redness, irritation, sensitivity to light, or blurry vision, IPL treatment may be an effective option to improve your eye health and comfort. Usually 4 treatments, spaced between 2 and 4 weeks apart are necessary. Come in for an evaluation to see if you are a good candidate for this highly effective therapy.
